Quiet Book for Young Learners
What is a Quiet Book?
A quiet book is a soft book designed for helping some teachers and students in teaching and learning activities. This book is also made with age-appropriate activities for babies, toddlers, preschool-age children, also young learners to learn while practicing some new skills. Using a quiet book, they can learn while playing as well, because a quiet book is mostly known as educational toys. Every activity that appears in a quiet book aims to stimulate children such as guessing animals, reading, and spelling some words related to the materials on the book.
Even though it called Quiet books a.k.a busy books, they are actually made from felt. As you can see in the picture above, I created a quite book using flannel. There are some fun activities and games to attract children's interests. Not only that, but a quiet book is also the best media for learning at home or everywhere. That's why you will see smart moms pull out a quiet book amidst their packed schedule, waiting room visits, and or long car rides so that they can keep their children conducive.
The picture above is one example of a quiet book that I have ever made. The book focuses on "Animals on The Farm" consisting of nine animals. That book aims to introduce the kind of animals on the farm and how to read also write the name of each animal by spelling. There are three activities in the book that can be used by children, check it down!
1. Guessing / Introduce animals
There are nine animals on the farm that teachers can use for introducing animals like guessing "what animals is it". Teachers or moms also can ask their children to mention those nine animals.
2. Reading
Students can read each name of animals on the farm which is above the picture of animals. So, this activity can improve children's reading skills. The teacher or mom will guide them on how to read it if they cannot read it yet.
3. Spelling
As you can see in the picture above, each letter can be removed and we can randomize it to engage our child spelling together by attaching it precisely. We can ask them "what is the first letter of HORSE?" if they answer correctly, they can directly stick it like the previous activity (reading).
If you want to know further about how to use the quiet book for teaching your children or students, you can watch my video while using it for self-teaching during this pandemic. Here is the video, happy watching!
Here are some reasons for "why a quiet book is good for young learners?"
1. Strengthen relationships by playing together
The first benefit is 'quite books' strengthen relationships between Mom and Children by learning and playing together. By playing quiet books a.k.a busy books, Mom and Child will develop a closer relationship. Moms can play a role to help their child finishing a game that they can't finish. Exciting, right?
2. Reduce the use of gadgets
Do you get dizzy when your children are busy with their gadgets? Well, don't be worry Moms! You can engage your children to play with quiet books. By playing quiet books, you don't need to be afraid of radiation exposure and eye damage that will be faced by your children when playing gadgets.
3. Easy to be brought!
As I said before, a quiet book is typically made from felt. That's why this book is easy to be brought because it is light.
4. Develop their knowledge
Quiet books also can help young learners to develop their knowledge. It is because they will find some new experiences when opening each side, such as a new thing that they haven't known before. They will ask their teachers or moms about those new things "what is that mom?" and the teacher will answer it, to make them know what is that.
